Suggestions for home alcoholic detox please?
I'm monitoring my mother while she detoxes alcohol from her system. She is an alcoholic who drinks toxic amounts. I flew in last night. It's 9:15 am here. Her last drink must have been sometime shortly before 8pm last night. She is very hypersensitive to sound right now and has what seems like repeated panic attacks. I'm 18, all alone, and I don't know what to do for her.
If you are undergoing any type of problem with alcoholism, drugs or depression all at the same time, you may have dual diagnosis. This is treatable, though very challenging. There are dual diagnosis treatment centers that handle this problem. You should give this some serious thought because the odds that you won’t get better are against you. Family members and friends who offer support are doing you well. The commonality for all dual diagnosis treatment centers is that they are equipped to handle various types of addictions to enable the patient to enjoy lasting recovery from all addictions. The success associated with drug addiction is helping the patient to stop denying that there is a problem, be honest about the situation, work hard to get well and be committed to treatment. It will take time for the person to get to the point of recovery, but it is something that has already been proven and you, too, can enjoy it.
While many dual diagnosis treatment centers vary in their approach, that does not mean that your loved one won’t get some immediate help. If you put your loved one into a rehab center that is not working for them, then it is your right and duty to take that person out of that environment and get a program for them that will meet their particular needs.
There are various dual diagnosis treatment centers that focus intensely on the spiritual aspect of treatment while there are others that only do this on a light basis, but concentrate more on the psychological and mental aspect of counseling. Most addiction treatment centers create objectives that are realistic enough to replace the person’s previous behavior and thoughts with healthier behaviors that foster change and progress. This is the reason why intense therapy is done to allow the person to open up and have the opportunity to speak honestly so that the therapist can discover all pertinent information that will help them to meet the person’s needs and to create a treatment plan that works.
Dual diagnosis is not unpopular. In fact, it is done to treat mental disorders that include anxiety, bipolar disorder, stress disorder, and depression; but of course, substance abuse is also part of the ensemble. Combined with addiction, mental disorders can be debilitating and life threatening. For example, a person who has depression and anxiety and also abuses drugs can be suicidal or have suicidal tendencies.
Dual diagnosis treatment centers do have affordable treatment for people who suffer from both problems. In fact, there is an increasing demand for this service as people are resorting to all means of substance abuse when they are struck with problems of depression and anxiety. They are also considerably effective when they provide care for all women and men across the United States. Dual diagnosis treatment centers that provide care to women have programs that are gender specific. They have limited sessions for therapy that focus on six women at a time. Making this group small gives each woman a voice and an environment to listen.
